CAMP LOCATION & AMENITIES

Our campsite is a ‘bush’ style camp therefore there are no amenity blocks and consequently neither are there buses, caravans and crowds of tourists. However Larapinta Creative Camps provides you with everything needed to make sure your camping experience is very comfortable. We provide a private bush toilet and can generally arrange for hot showers at nearby locations during the week. (this will not be possible at Ruby Gap as it is too remote) In between showers you can swim if the waterholes are full or use a large bowl of warm water for a 'cat's lick' style body wash. Our swags are extemely comfotable and warm, fitted with doonas sheets, pillows and extra blankets if required.
We are are always complimented on our delicious and generous meals, made with fresh ingredients and our excellent choice of bottled wine with dinner and great coffee. We provide comfortable chairs, a large camp table and the trademark of true territorian camping style, a cosy ‘swag’, for sleeping. A swag is an ingenious combination of comfy foam mattress, fluffy pillow, sleeping bag and sheet all contained by a zippered canvas sheath that allows you to enjoy our spectacular starry skies. For rainy occasions or for added privacy we provide tents when required or requested. Our transport is a 4WD mini bus (8 seater) and a kitchen trailer. We also take another small enclosed trailer on the art camps to house the extra equipment required, plus art materials and participants artwork. We pride ourselves on providing a true camping experience where you will always feel comfortable & well looked after.

THE CAMP PROGRAMME

The programme will to some degree be determined by the needs and physical capabilites of the group, so let us know what you would like to happen. On previous camps we have spent some days working in the vicinity of camp as there are some wonderful land features close by. On others we take short 4WD trips to some of the most special locations and gorges in the National Park. There will generally be some gentle walking involved each day and extended walks are offered on occasions for those who would like some longer, expertly guided adventures on the Larapinta Trail. Deborah offers tuition and support for those who request it. For those who wish to work independently on their own creative projects the camp offers a stimulating small group environment in which to share their creative process and ideas. We are fostering a relationship with with the Ngurratjuta Art Centre in Alice Springs so that we may have some Western Arrente artists join us on occassions to share their connection to this, their country.
(Group size is small with a max. of 9 participants).

What others have said about their experience...

“ this has been a wonderful week in many ways...mostly because I feel as if some part of me has been unlocked! What has emerged is a me more brave, carefree and confident. You have helped me ‘see’ more and ‘care’ less! Bev Dunphy, Oct 03:

“Thankyou for your inspiration and creativity, your generosity in taking us to your special places both in the land and in your artistic and personal work . I am very gratful for your sensitivity in teaching so that I can move forward without detracting from where I have come. I feel opened up without feeling exposed. Sue Williamson Oct 03

"It was wonderful to be able to just draw and 'be drawn' into this amazing environment. I felt safe and cared for and free to explore the beauty both physically and visually. Lois, July 05

"This was a really creative camp and a wonderful experience. As an inexperienced camper I had a lot to learn, and I did. The camp has provided time out to consider life and the direction I would like to go in my art. Thankyou for the great walks, activities, meals and facilities. And the knowledge you have both shared with us. Amazing! Pippin Magaria Oct 06

"what a week! it has been amazing being part of this wonderful environment, so much more beautiful than I ever imagined. The colours, the light and the tranquility have a magic all their own. Also being part of an amazing group of creative beings has been a priviledge. I go home enthused and filled with new ideas and determined to spend more time with my art. Thanks Deb for sharing your immense creativity and to you both for making the camp so comfortable and easy and for the fabulous meals Charlie. Jan Burne Oct 06

"What a wonderful expereince it all was! Thank you for facilitating it so expertly. Images of beauty in unexpected places linger on. I can see why the lure of the centre is so strong. Susie Shaw June 07
